Court Stops Kano Assembly From Investigating Governor Ganduje

The Kano State House of Assembly’s Investigative Committee has been barred from investigating further into the bribery allegations against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje
The court also ordered all other parties involved in the investigation of the bribery allegation to maintain status quo ante, pending the determination of the originating summon. NAN reports that the originating summons was filed by Mohammed Zubair, the National Coordinator of Lawyers for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria.
When the case came up for hearing, counsel to the plaintiff, Kalid Abdullatif, said that going by Order 29, Rule 1 and Order 28, Rule 1 and 4 of the Rules of the Court, 2014, the application filed on behalf of the plaintiff on November 5, restraining the defendants, Kano state House of Assembly, Baffa Babba Danagundi and the state Attorney-General from further investigation of the bribery allegation, still subsist.
Osinbajo Defends Nigeria’s $73bn Debt Profile
The Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osibanjo on Tuesday defended the Nation’s New debt profile of $73 billion nairas, despite admitting that the figure rose by another $10 billion within 4 years. In 2015, the Vice President said the debt profile was $63 billion naira, growing by 10 billion to reach $73 billion in 2018.
However, Osinbajo, who spoke during a town hall meeting with Nigerians in Abuja, defended the debt profile, arguing that the country was still within the safe region, especially when compared with other countries. He said people had misconceptions when they argued that the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was piling up more debts than its predecessors. Osinbajo argued that the country ’s debts rose the “sharpest” between 2010 and 2014 when oil prices were also quite high.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el – Rufai on Tuesday said he settled for Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, a fellow Muslim, as his running mate in the 2019 governorship election in the state because she is the right person for the job.
The governor, who received in audience the people of Sanga Local Government Area at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, who came to thank him for picking their daughter as his running mate, said he based his choice on competence and performance. Balarabe ’s choice as el -Rufai ’s running mate had generated criticism in the state.
But el – Rufai, while responding to critics, said before he picked Balarabe, he consulted President Muhammadu Buhari.
EFCC Intercepts N211m Worth of Gold at Lagos Airport
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday said its operatives intercepted gold worth about N 211 m being illegally transported through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Following intelligence report, the operatives were said to have on Friday, November 9, intercepted the gold weighing about 35 kg at the point of departure from a suspect, who is currently in the EFCC’s custody.
“Investigations are currently ongoing to unravel the suspect ’ s accomplices in the illegal movement of the goods. Meanwhile, the suspect is cooperating with operatives,” the acting Head, Media, and Publicity, EFCC, Tony Orilade, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Senators Abandon Plenary For Election Campaigns
Many senators who have been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest the 2019 general elections stayed away from plenary on Tuesday, forcing the red chamber to adjourn till next week.
The chamber needs at least 37 senators to carry out legislative activities at plenary but our correspondent observed that 20 members were seated at the commencement of the day ’s session
The Minority Whip, Senator Phillip Aduda, who moved the motion for the adjournment, citing order 10 ( 3 ) of the Senate rules, explained that most of the members were not at plenary because they went on oversight functions.
Investigations by news agencies revealed that many of the senators might have stayed away to enable them to carry out necessary preparations for their campaigns starting on Sunday.
One of the senators, who was not at plenary, told our correspondent on the telephone that he was in his village strategising towards his campaign.
