Leicester City Reportedly Favourites To Sign Free Agent Arjen Robben

Leicester City according to bookmakers are reportedly the favourites to sign Bayern Munich veteran, Arjen Robben on a free transfer upon the expiry of the Dutch’s contract this summer.

Leicester are in pole position to sign Robben with PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivise touted as a possible destination for the winger also.

Robben sometime in May also said he could retire from playing football upon leaving Bayern.

He was quoted by BBC as saying:

“It is an option, but I don’t know whether it will happen,”

“It is not an easy decision to make. If you decide that you are going to keep playing, you have to find a place where everything is just right, not just in terms of football but also for my family.”

Leicester City boast a number of exciting wingers like Demarai Gray and Harvey Barnes and an inclusion of Arjen Robben in the squad could add a vast spectrum of experience into Brendan Rodgers’ youthful team.

If that happens, Arjen Robben will be playing in the Premier League for the second time having played in West London where he represented Chelsea for three years in a spell that saw him lift the league title twice as well as the FA Cup.

Robben then switched to Real Madrid before finally making a move to Bayern where he spent a huge chunk of his professional career.

The veteran is set to leave the Bundesliga after 10 successful trophy-laden years where he appeared in three Champions League finals and won in one of those.

Robben while speaking about his decision to retire said:

“Of course, one thinks a lot about the future. That was already the case last year when I extended for another year. Ten years has been an incredibly nice and long period,”

“I’m 35 in the summer and I think it’s good for everyone, including myself and the club. I’m still very happy at the club, but the point is also coming where you say, now it’s okay.”
