Match Preview

Leicester City welcome Manchester City for their Boxing Day encounter at the King Power stadium on the back of a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Man City find themselves four points adrift of leaders Liverpool after suffering a 3-2 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Leicester City

Leicester showed that they are still capable of producing high-level performances as they defeated Chelsea on Saturday to became the first visiting team to register a win at Stamford Bridge all season.

The Foxes had some luck on their way to keeping a clean sheet, but it was a result which can act as a much needed boost towards an improved second half of the campaign as the club fights for European qualification.

This is coming on the back of rumours that Claude Puel could be sacked following a long poor run of results before the win against Chelsea. It would seem Puel’s job is now somewhat ‘safe’.

Leicester City must now consolidate and have a good showing at the King Power against a wounded Man City side who are eager to show they are not one season wonders by chasing the log leaders Liverpool.

Vardy is a doubt following a groin strain during the match against Chelsea. But Claude Puel could name an unchanged side from what we saw against Chelsea. Demarai Gray could replace Mark Albrighton but other players are set to keep their position.

Manchester City

Manchester City have had a brilliant season but they have had to deal with complacency in the last few weeks. A loss to Chelsea, followed by another loss to Crystal Palace last weekend has put a big strain in their title hopes.

On the other end, Liverpool have been ruthless, dispatching team after team and are now four points better than Manchester City on the log.

Coach Pep Guardiola has had to deal with a number of injury problems in recent weeks, but the defeat to Palace was partly City’s own doing and the Spaniard will be concerned that complacency had started to become an issue for his players.

Man City also have a favourable run of games throughout the rest of January, encounters which will feel easier if maximum points can be registered against Leicester and Southampton.

Oleksandr Zinchenko could be recalled at left-back with Fabian Delph being used in midfield, and Riyad Mahrez is in line for a start against his former club.
