Adamawa state is one of the three states that are most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Northeast Nigeria. It came into existence in 1991 when Taraba state was created from Gongola state. Adamawa state is made up of Local Government Areas and has Bindo Jibrilla as its governor.

Demsa Local Government Area is inhabited by ethnic groups such as Maya, Bare, Fulani, Mbula, Bille, Bachama, Batta and Yandang. This LGA has an area of 1,825KM². Demsa LGA was created in 1991 and is made up of seven Towns.

Girei is both a town and a Local Government Area in Adamawa state with a landmass of 1848km². The people of Girei LGA are predominantly farmers and cattle rearers. Although the Fulani tribe is the dominant tribe in this LGA, they share this LGA with the Bwatiye people.

Michika Local Government Area was created in 1976.This Local Government Area is made up of eight districts, is the most densely populated LGA in Adamawa state, and is occupied by the Kamwe people. Michika LGA is made up of over 90% Christians.
