Loftus-Cheek Ruled Out Of Europa League Finals With Arsenal

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been sidelined after a suspected Achilles injury he sustained in a friendly match against New England Revolution.

The 23-yr-old midfielder will be missing the Europa League finals against Arsenal in Baku on the 29th of May

Loftus-cheek who was a second half substitute fell awkwardly only 20 minutes after his introduction in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over New England Revolution.

The midfielder looked to be in so much agony that he was helped off the turf into the dressing room for further treatment, so severe was the injury that Loftus was seen leaving the stadium in crutches and wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

Chelsea are confident that Frenchman Ngolo Kante will recover from a sustained hamstring injury in time for the Europa league finals but an injury to another midfielder in the shape of Loftus-Cheek will deal a considerable blow to the London club.

Loftus has been in the best form of his career, contributing 10 goals in all competitions with four of those in the Europa League, a competition in which he has been a regular for the London Blues.

Whilst supportive of the good intentions around the friendly fixture, which raised a sum in the neighbourhood of £3.1m to combat discrimination with about 27,000 people in attendance, Sarri had been unconvinced as to the timing of a game tagged on to a draining season.

Chelsea lock horns with Arsenal in Baku on 29 May, and the Italian gaffer had hoped his players would benefit from a more prolonged rest rather than flying immediately to the United States upon the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.

The game against the Gunners would likely be the last for Gonzalo Higuain in Chelsea’s shirt as the London club are unwilling to extend the loan contract or buying him outright with the Argentinian only netting five goals in 21 appearances all season long.
