Madrid President, Perez Describes Zidane As A Blessing From Heaven

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez was full of praise for Zinedine Zidane who guided Real Madrid to a Super Copa title on Sunday.

The Real Madrid legend oversaw his first title win since the 2017/18 Champions League success and Perez is hopeful it’s just one of many more to come.

The French gaffer has overseen nine finals and won each of them with the Los Blancos win over Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa finals, his latest.

Madrid thumped their city rivals to a 4-1 win on penalties after a goalless draw in 120minutes of play. Should Federico Valverde not have brought Alvaro Morata down, with the Spaniard being goal bound, there would have been no talk of a penalty shoot-out opportunity for Real Madrid.

However, Valverde conceded a cynical foul and took a red card for it but ultimately saved his side from conceding a late defeat.

Ramos scored the last spot kick to help Zidane win his first title in his second stint at the Santigao Bernabeu. It was even more memorable for Zidane because he had to play without stars like Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, yet lifted  the Spanish Cup.

“[Zidane] has plenty of trophies and we’re very happy for him,” the Real Madrid president said, as reported by Marca. “I hope that he wins more trophies.

“Zidane has a loving relationship with Real Madrid. He decided to rest for a year and now he’s returned with renewed energy. Zidane is a blessing from heaven.”

He went further to say that the club was beginning to find its feet in the post-Ronaldo era.

“We came here without some great players like Hazard, Benzema and Bale,” Perez said. “Zidane has been able to put together a team and we won the trophy.

“I think that we’re on the path to finding ourselves again after a little dip. New people have come in who have given the team intensity and we’re on a good path.”
