Mahrez Hopes To Build On Current Form

Manchester City star, Riyad Mahrez is determined to continue on his good run and improve form with Manchester City.

The Algerian was the Citizen’s stand-out performer in Manchester City’s hard-fought win against Everton.

The winger’s performance was capped by a beautiful freekick goal in the second half of the encounter, continuing his fine run of form that saw him lead his National side to success in the African Cup of Nations.

After the end of the African continental showpiece, the former Leicester City man were already one game into their pre-season tour of Asia, meaning the winger had little respite from competitive action before the Premier League resumed.

Folllowing his first season at the Etihad where he had to start from the bench for the most parts of the season, Mahrez thinks it’s for the best.

I didn’t have much holidays but that is what I wanted, because I wanted to be ready straightaway,” he said. “I am happy but I have to keep going.”

Mahrez caused Marco Silva’s men a bit of worry and set up an excellent chance for Ilkay Gundogan before the midfielder remarkably struck it against the bar.

The Citizens took the lead through Gabriel Jesus before the Toffees levelled matters through Dominc Calvert-Lewin who had the last touch of Seamus Coleman’s shot.

It was then down to some beautiful freekick from the winger and a fierce shot from Raheem Sterling to secure all three points for the visitors.

The 28-year-old said:

“I don’t think it was a frustrating game – I think it was a good game from us. We could have killed the game in the first half, first 20 (minutes) – we had a lot of chances – but didn’t, compared to the game against Watford where we had five chances and we scored five goals.

“But I guess we have to go through this type of game. I think we made a good game and we are happy to have won.”
