Makelele Rejoins Chelsea As Technical Mentor

Chelsea legend, Claude Makelele has rejoined the London club in a coaching role. The former Chelsea midfielder has been named as a technical mentor for young players as well as those out on loan.

The former France International has reunited with the London Blues for the first time in 11 years after his stints as coach at Paris Saint-Germain, Bastia, Swansea and Belgium’s Eupen since his retirement in 2011.

Makelele enjoyed a trophy-laden era in Chelsea where he made 217 appearances, won two league titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his five-year spell with the club.

Makelele who described Chelsea as home said he was glad to be back at the Stamford Bridge and was looking forward to helping young Chelsea players achieve their dreams.

“I want to use all my experience to help them become professionals in every aspect and I am looking forward to getting started.”, the former Chelsea midfielder.

Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea director said the club was confident Makelele will make a huge impact during his stay at the club

“We are very pleased to welcome Claude back to Chelsea, where he made such an impact during five excellent years as a player.

“His long and successful career in the field added to his winning mentality and experience as a coach in recent years, making him the ideal person to pass on his expertise to our talented youngsters.

“He will be a valuable asset to both our Academy and first-team coaching staff.”, Marina said.

Former Chelsea and Italy goalkeeper, Carlo Cudicini has also been appointed loan player technical coach.

Although the former Chelsea man formed a part of Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri’s backroom staff at the Bridge, he won’t play a part in Lampard’s.

That said, Cudicini, 45 is poised to remain in the London club, this time as technical coach to players on loan.
