Manchester City Avoid Scare Agaisnt Southampton With Goals From Aguero And Walker

Southampton who were dealt a devastating 9-0 blow by Leicester City stunned a large fraction of football’s audience when he capitalised on a goalkeeping gaffe by Manchester City goalie, Ederson.

James Ward-Prowse would be the one to put the Saints ahead at the Etihad stadium.

Manchester City were simply out of place and it took 70 minutes for them to register their first shot on target. That shot did count as Sergio Aguero made matters level at the Etihad.

With four minutes left on the clock to play, Southampton goalkeeper parried a cross from Angelino into the path of Kyle Walker for the defender to score only his third goal in 103 appearances for the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola named a strong side against the Saints but it wasn’t quite hot knife through butter like most people thought it would be. Though, the Spanish gaffer fielded his first team, he gave Angelino the nod to start in left-back position.

Southampton coach, Ralph Hassenhutl resisted the temptation to make massive changes to the side that lost so embarrassingly to Leicester City. He made only three appearances to the side and was rewarded with a heroic performance which unfortunately didn’t lead to victory.

The dynamics of the game could have changed had Aguero not flashed a header wide off the post some seconds into the game.

It was the Saints who went ahead instead. They then worked to keep all three points with a five-man defence working tirelessly to keep out the attacking fire power of the hosts.

It was the first time the visitors had grabbed a win in the first forty-five minutes and Guardiola responded accordingly by throwing Gabriel Jesus – who came in for David Silva – into the fray.

It was Aguero and not Jesus who got the first goal. De Bruyne, as usual, was the architect. The Belgian slid the ball for Kyle Walker whose full-back was met with a first time finish from Kun Aguero.

It was the defender who scored the eventual winner as well.
