Manchester City Humilate Watford In FA Cup Final To Win Domestic Treble

Manchester City made another routine win to wrap up the first domestic treble recorded in English football.

It was only a Cup final by name, the FA Cup with all its history and magical imponderables had to bend its knees to the utter dominance of Pep Guardiola and its men.

Watford fought valiantly and did everything within their limits to execute a plan of containment while accepting that the best they could do was delay the inevitable.

The Hornets had one plan, defend deep and counter-attack City but they probably had some questions lurking in some corner of their mind – can we stop this treshing machine from mauling us?

Fair enough, they did get their chance even with only 27 percent possession but Pereyra couldn’t send the ball past Ederson despite having only the Brazilian to beat.

Then City got their first almost from nothing after Doucoure lost the ball to a tenacious Bernardo Silva. The ball went to the back post was half cleared before being brought into play via a header from Sterling before David Silva slotted the ball home for his first goal in the calendar year.

Watford began to shrink and the Man City’s dominance from then onwards was overwhelming to say the least.

Kevin de Bruyne came in just before the hour mark for Mahrez and the Belgian tucked it into the net after some nice combination from Jesus and Sterling.

The Belgian also created another for Jesus in the 68th minute and from then onward the floodgates opened.

Sterling added two more and Watford cracked. They had just been humiliated in a Cup final.

This game was rather one-sided and there has been no stopping Guardiola’s teams.

Five of the last six domestic trophies have been won by Guardiola’s team and there’s no stopping that lethal attack.

Talk of the talents in this team, Kevin de Bruyne picked up the Man of the Match Award despite playing only 35 minutes and Sterling grabbing a hattrick. What an influence he had on the game!

Manchester City 6-0 Watford.
