Manchester City Lifts Carabao Cup Courtesy Of 2-1 Win Over Villa

Manchester City gave lifted the Carabao Cup for the third year on trot after a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the tournament’s final.

Two goals from the duo of Sergio Aguero and Rodri took the Citizens over the line as the Manchester side were crowned Champions once again.

Aguero scored the opener before Rodri made it two 10 minutes later to put City in command of the game.

Mbwana Samatta then pulled one back in an attempt to put Villa back into the game.

Despite fierce and potent attacks from City, Villa were successful at keeping the Citizens at bay as they held on till the final whistle.

Guardiola was delighted with the outcome, registering his third win in the Carabao Cup.

“Three times in a row is a big success. It’s the consistency, incredible,” he told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
“It was awesome. We struggled in the first minutes and the last ones. They had two clear chances in the first minutes but we played really well, especially in the second half.”

The win comes at the back of their recent win away at the Santiago Bernabeu in their Champions League tie with Real Madrid.

While the league title feels far from their reach, Guardiola is now more interested in lifting other trophies and has singled out youngster, Phil Foden for special praise.

“The game was good. Phil was clinical. Big success, our second title of the season with the Community Shield, it’s so nice,” he added.

“We’ve won a lot. I tried when we arrive, every game we play we try to win it, every competition we try to win it, and three times in a row, being here and winning is great.”

The Carabao win is also Guardiola’s right trophy since making way to the Etihad stadium.
