Manchester City Produce Stunning Come-Back Against Schalke 04 Despite Going One-Man Down

The tactical acumen of Pep Guardiola and a late rallying by the team was enough to land Manchester City a win over an ambitious team, despite City going one man down in the 68th-minute with Nicolas Otamendi receiving a shower for a bad challenge.

The Citizens were the first to go ahead after a simple tap-in from star and in-form striker Sergio Aguero after a miscued pass from Ralf Fahrmann was intercepted.

As Schalke 04 worked the ball from their keeper, Silva was the quickest to react to a goalkeeping gaffe as he stole in and slipped the ball to Aguero who has become a tap-in specialist of some sorts in recent games.

For all the brilliance in the goal, it was subjected to VAR consultation before the main referee nodded in approval.

Prior to that, the Citizen’s first attempt at goal came through the striker when his first-time header was tipped over the cross bar by Fahrmann with the Argentine having received a fine cross from midfield maestro, David Silva.

There was no real talking point from either teams after that first goal with City piling up the pressure and the German side trying to work something too. However, in the 33rd-minute, shouts of handball were rife with Otamendi being the culprit, an appeal that was subjected to VAR review before a nod was given for a penalty.

Otamendi was booked and Nabil Bentaleb took to the spot to give his side the much needed equalizer sending Ederson Morales the wrong way in the process.

If you thought that was harsh on the Citizens, more was to come as the referee pointed once more to the spot after he adjudged Fernandinho to have pulled down Salif Sane as Schalke attempted to loft a free-kick into the box.

Bentaleb felt like the Marvel’s Punisher sent to punish the Citizens as he scored once more from the spot at the stroke of half-time.

Things went soon went South for Manchester City when Otamendi was sent off for a second foul on Burgstaller.

The tactical intelligence of Pep Guardiola soon came into play after substitute Leroy Sane scored a screamer from kick from 25-yards out and Sterling netted later on to give the City the win.

Guessed who made the assist to Sterling. Oh! I guessed wrong the first time too. Ederson Morales turned provider as he sent in a 70-yard kick into the path of Raheem Sterling who held off his marker before sending it into the back of the net.

Schalke 04 1-4 Manchester City it ended.
