Manchester City Vs Wolves – Post Match Report

It was shouts and chants aplenty as two goals from Gabriel Jesus and an own goal from Conor Coady ensured that Manchester City thumped 10-man Wolves to a 3-0 win. This win would keep the pressure on title challengers, Liverpool.

Recall that this fixture ended in a 1-all draw last time out. There was therefore this tiny bit of chance that bookmakers were willing to pounce on, the probability that Wolves came out tops. However, it all boils down to 90 minutes of play, innit? Aye, Let’s get down to the talking points.

It took only 10 minutes for Gabriel Jesus to make City move by a goal up. The Brazilian latched on to a pass from Leroy Sane, he made no mistake about it as he slid it home to give his side the much deserved lead. Nonetheless, it would be unfair to Aymeric Laporte if the build-up to the goal isn’t explained. Aymeric Laporte was the brain behind the move. He threw-in a peach of a pass to Sane, a long diagonal pass if you would. That form of defender with such exquisite skill is what money can get you. Only David Luiz in the league rivals that.

Inside of nine minutes, things grew from bad to worse for Wolves when they lost their best centre-back in WIlly Boly to a red card.

Man City first failed to take advantage of the card handed out to Boly. Some minutes after however, it was Raheem Sterling who took the game by the scruff of the neck. The English man burst into the box and went tumbling onto the ground with Ryan Bennett making the challenge. Gabriel Jesus stepped up to take the penalty and converted it from the spot, taking his tally to two in the match.

Man City then made it a comfortable win when substitute Kevin de Bruyne had his cross deflected off Conor Coady into his own net.

ManCity would be begging for an extra goal as that would increase their tally to 100 goals in all competitions for the season. But it wasn’t to come.

As a result, they missed out on the record they set themselves in the 2013-2014 season where they became the fastest team to reach the 100-goal mark in a season. However, they will be turning to the positives of the match. A magnificent three points.
