Manchester United Battered And Bruised By Impudent And Ferocious Everton

It was a heavy defeat for Manchester United, a hefty blow dealt by Marco Silva at the Goodison Park, their largest defeat to the Toffees since October 1984.

It was supposed to be the beginning of a new era for Manchester United under the reins of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the Norwegian gaffer can see for himself that what he has inherited is indeed a shambolic team not shy of living in ruins.

United players require a reality check just like Solskjaer had declared last week. Their loss to Barcelona in the last eight of the Champions League competition didn’t create any hunger in the team as they went into this game with no semblance of commitment whatsoever.

There were ceaseless apathetic displays from their overpriced players that Sir Alex Ferguson must have been biting his lips so hard wondering where it must have gone wrong for the club with which he had spent most of his life.

Richarlison started the onslaught with a superb acrobatic overhead kick but it was Lucas Digne who kickstarted the play.

The fullback threw a long ball into the box which was met with a glancing header by Dominic Calvert-Lewin who beat Chris Smalling in an aerial challenge before falling into the path of Richarlison for the screamer.
Everton’s second then came from a corner that was taken by Rashford and cleared by Richarlison.

Gueye and Bernard stringed some passes before laying it off for Sigurdsson who took advantage of Matic’s slow pace, drove in and swept a precise finish into the net from 25 yards out.

Manchester United were battered and bruised and there was no room for escape for them, well, of course not with Lucas Digne rifling in a half volley far beyond the reach of Dea Gea after the Spaniard had previously punched away a Sigurdsson corner.

Sigurdsson was at the heart of it once again – for the fourth this time – as he turned provider for Theo Walcott with an impudent nutmeg of Victor Lindelof. The substitute was sent through on goal but still had De Gea to beat and he did so with a plomb!

Everton 4-0 Manchester United it ended.
