Manchester United fans have gone all out to criticize Belgian big man, Romelu Lukaku after the Red devils put up a post to celebrate the former Evertonian birthday.
Lukaku has endured a torrid second season at Manchester United, finding the net only 15 times across all competitions.
The Belgian was loosely involved in the goings in the red devils last game against Cardiff. A hamstring problem in the game sent the 26 year old to the stands from where he watched his side beaten by relegated Cardiff City by a 2-0 scoreline.
Romelu Lukaku turns 26 on Monday and Manchester United sent their wishes to the striker via Instagram.
The club also posted a video to celebrate the striker since his move to the club from Everton, congratulating him on the 28 PL goals he’s netted since his arrival at Old Trafford.
This post has triggered some bitter United fans to come all out against the bulky forward who they think has underperformed during his spell at the club.
Lukaku has lost his place to Marcus Rashford since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and doesn’t look likely to reclaim that spot anytime soon.
An Instagram user reacting to the post wrote:
“So that’s like 14 goals in a season since he’s been here for 2 years – wow and that’s a 90 mil striker.”
Another comment said: “We need a striker with 28 league goals in a single season!!”
Many were appalled by the goal tally considering that he was brought to the club at a huge price to bang in the goals.
Lukaku might soon be on his way out of Old Trafford with Inter Milan eyeing him as a replacement for Mauro Icardi should in case he leaves the San Siro.
That said, Lukaku said he wasn’t aware of any impending moves when asked after the game against Chelsea.
“Me? I don’t know, I’m not here to entertain rumours. I’m still under contract”, he said.
