Manchester United Left Fuming Over Ashley Young Captain Pick
Manchester United fans are fuming at reports that Ashley Young will be handed the captaincy armband next season with Paul Pogba managing the vice-captain role.
The departure of Antonio Valencia meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to appoint another as captain and the Norwegian gaffer has opted to make Ashley Young captain on a permanent basis with the English man having deputized for most parts of last season.
According to Times, Paul Pogba will also be handed the vice-captaincy in a bid to keep him at the club.
The Frenchman was told he would never be made captain at the club anymore by Jose Mourinho – a move that sparked a dispute between the Portuguese gaffer and Paul. Pogba was later handed the captaincy role in Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with Wolves.
Fans of the red half of Manchester are worried that Ashley Young was honoured with such heavy responsibility at Old Trafford with several of them with the opinion that his performances last season shouldn’t let remain in the team, let alone be honoured with a captaincy role.
End next season already

That said, Man United are looking to sign a new right-back this summer – Aaron Wan Bissaka has been mooted. If this transfer goes through, 33-yr-old Young will often be off the pitch, meaning Pogba would be left to shoulder captain responsibilities for most parts of the season.
According to Solskjaer, when Young isn’t on the pitch, captaincy would narrow down to three names: David de Gea, Chris Smalling and Paul Pogba.
Solskjaer has praised Pogba’s leadership qualities previously, saying in January:
“He’s a leader. You see the personality. He loves playing football. He’s a larger-than-life character.
“When the performances come as well, that marries together as a good leader and you see what it meant to him winning the World Cup. So for me, yes, he’s captain material.”
