Manchester United have upped their bid for Leicester City and England defender, Harry Maguire with the fee placed at £70 million accoridng to a report by SkySports.
They have now moved ahead of their city rivals, Manchester City in the pursuit of the 25 year old centre-back.
The Foxes are said to have been in talks with the Red devils for some time now with Maguire looking to make a switch to Old Trafford.
However, Manchester City are also keen on signing Harry with rumours suggesting that the centre-back favors a move to the Etihad above Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, it is Manchester United who have shown the greatest resolve to sign the England defender.
Leicester City have previously insisted that do not necessarily need to sell the defender and if they would not sell lesser than the £75 million paid by Liverpool for former Southampton centre-back, Virgil Van Dijk.
Yet, it is expected that an improved bid by Manchester United could make them reconsider their options and perhaps let Maguire off to Old Trafford.
Harry Maguire has been hugely impressive in the pat two seasons, putting up great numbers and being a key player of the impressive showing of England at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
He – along with all of the Foxes’ other international players – were not a part of the group who returned to begin Leicester’s pre-season training schedule on Monday at their Belvoir Drive training complex.
It still remains unknown if the England International will join his club team-mates on Sunday when they head to Évian-les-Bains for six days of training in the French Alps.
Maguire is thought to be happy at the King Power Stadium and would not force any transfer but is open to the idea of playing for any of the ‘Big Six’.
The chances of Manchester United landing the defender will be better boosted if Manchester City decide to keep Nicolas Otamendi who was Atletico Madrid-bound before the departure of Vincent Kompany and neglect the signing of 25two-year-old Maguire.
