Mane Helps Liverpool To Last-Minute Gasp Winner Against Villa

Sadio Mane helped Liverpool complete an epic comeback against a robust and defiant Aston Vila side.

If Liverpool do win the Premier League trophy, a title which has eluded them for the last three decades, the game against Villa is expected to be included in the show reel.

Villa who gained promotion into England’s top-flight this term gave the Reds a tough time and were inches away from inflicting a first League defeat on Liverpool.

Andy Robertson levelled matters with a beautiful header in the 87th minute and quickly fetched the ball so that Liverpool could quickly go for a winner, which they eventually got in the last minute of stoppage time through Sadio Mane.

The final whistle sent Villa players crumbling to the grass in great shock. They had hopes of leaving with all three points only some minutes away, only to bow to Liverpool’s winning mentality in the closing minutes of the encounter.

Mohammed Salah’s compatriot, Trezeguet was the first to pen his name on the scoresheet, giving his side a surprise lead in the 21st minute.

Aston Villa tenaciously kept that scoreline by being tact and compact at the back, occasionally threatening to add to their tally.

However, Liverpool kept gunning for goal, pouring more and more men forward until Villa’s compact defence gave in to all their pressures.

They would however take solace in the fact that they could cause the Reds so much headache and score a goal of their own, even without their most creative player, Jack Grealish.

The man who came in for Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi took the duo of Mane and Van Dijk by storm when he barrelled past them and unleashed a shot Allison needed two attempts to keep out.

In the end, it was Liverpool who triumphed, thanks to their tenacity and mental strength.
