Massimiliano Allegri To Leave Juventus Job At End Of Campaign

Massimiliano Allegri will be quitting his job as Juventus manager by season’s end after five years with the Italian champions that saw him stir them to five scuddetto titles.

A statement made on Juve’s official website gave fans the hint. The statement read:

“Massimiliano Allegri will not be on the Juventus bench for the 2019-2020 season.“The coach and the president, Andrea Agnelli, will meet the media together at tomorrow’s press conference – Saturday 18 May, at 2pm in the press conference hall of Allianz Stadium.”

Juventus wrapped up the Serie A title four weeks ago with two games left to play but a Champions League disappointment despite the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo meant that Allegri hadn’t met the set target for the campaign.

Added to their woes, they have only won one of their last four games since lifting the Scuddetto title.

Allegri arrived at Juventus after a four year stint and has led the Biaconeris to five consecutive Serie A titles, securing the cup double and league in his four seasons.

He also led them to two Champions league finals in 2015 and 2017 where they eventually lost to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Allegri arrived at Turin six months after he was sacked at Milan where he had led them to a Serie A title in his first season in 2011 after earning coaching plaudits in Cagliari.

He was initially greeted with hostility in Turin but in no time won over the fans with a five year sweep of the Serie A titles.

Former Juventus coach, Antonio Conte is favourite to land the job and make a return to the Old Lady.

The Italian gaffer led the Old Lady to the first three of the current run of eight consecutive Serie A titles.

Conte who has been out of contract since his sack at Chelsea before kick-off of the 2018-19 season said he wants to get back into some coaching role next season but gave no details or pointers to what country or league he was interested in.
