Messi Lashes Out At Abidal And Barcelona Hierarchy

Barcelona now look deep in crisis after the Blaugranas captain, Lionel Messi lashed out at the club’s sporting director in Eric Abidal after the former defender accused players at the Camp Nou for not working well enough under the stead of the sacked Ernesto Valverde.

Former Real Betis coach, Quique Setien took over the reins at the Camp Nou after Valverde was sacked despite the Spanish manager helping them to the summit of the Laliga table and the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Messi, who rarely airs his opinions on social media recated to Eric Abidal’s comments which were made in an interview with Sport, a Spanish newspaper.

As per CNN Phillipines, it was reported that Abidal said the players were neither satisfied nor worked hard under Ernesto valverde. He also reported that there was an internal communication issue.

“The coach-dressing room relationship has always been good, but there are things I can smell as an ex-player. I told the club what I thought and a decision had to be made,” the sporting director who once played alongside Messi said.

In response to the allegation, the Barcelona skipper asked Abidal to name the players he was referring to, stressing that the board should take responsibility for their decisions.

“Honestly, I don’t like doing these things but I think everyone should be responsible for their tasks and take ownership of their decisions,” the Argentine wrote on Instagram, circling Abidal’s quotes.

“The players should own up to what happens on the pitch and additionally, we are the first ones to admit when we weren’t good.

“The sporting directors should also take their share of the blame and above all else own up to the decisions they make.

“Lastly, I think that when one speaks about the players, they should give names because if not they’re dirtying everyone and feeding things that are said and are not true.”

This row might have terrible consequences on the club with a clause in Messi’s contract which affords him the freedom to walk away freely from the Camp Nou at the end of the campaign.
