Mike Phelan Appointed As Manchester United Assistant Manager

Manchester United have now confirmed the appointment of Mike Phelan as assistant manager on a three-year contract.

The former Manchester United player returned to Old Trafford in 2018 as assistant manager to Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mike Phelan previously worked in the same role during Sir Alex Ferguson stint in the years 2001-2013, a period in which the red devils lifted seven Premier League titles.

Phelan who felt thrilled an excited about his new appointment said Manchester United has been a huge part of his life since he joined in 1989 and that he was delighted to continue his relationship with the club in that key role.

“Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989 and I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role.”

He stressed that he has enjoyed working with Ole, Kieran, Carrick, Emilio and Mark since his return to December and that they are all focused on preparing for the new season.

“Since returning in December, I have enjoyed working with Ole, Michael, Kieran, Mark and Emilio and we are all focused on preparing for the new season.”

Solskjaer on the appointment said Phelan has been a great and invaluable personality since his return to the club in December.

He stressed that Mike brings a wealth of experience to the role having maintained a long standing relationship with the club.

“Mike is a great person to have around and has been invaluable to me since we returned in December. He brings a wealth of experience to this role with a long established connection to the club.

“We have a good group of coaching staff and we are already working on the challenges that lie ahead as we plan for the new season and the future beyond.”, said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
