Mike Pompeo – 2019 General Election is a critical test for Nigeria

– The US Secretary of States, Mike Pompeo said the 2019 General Election is a critical test for Nigeria to prove it Democracy stand

– He also urged INEC not to bow to external pressure and intimidation

The United States of America has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC not to bow to external pressure and intimidation  in the forthcoming Nigerian General election slated for Feb 16 and March 2.

Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State in a statement disclosed that the 2019 General Election is a critical test for Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa has a whole.

The US Secretary of State disclosed that it is an opportunity for Nigeria to prove it Democratic leadership in the African continent.

He declared that the US wouldn’t in interfere in the country’s electoral process and that the US only supports a free, fair and peaceful election.

Mike Pompeo also spoke on the importance of securing before, during and after the election.

He called on the security agencies in the country to provide adequate security for voters to exercise their franchise easily.

The US secretary of state added that anyone who interferes with electoral process or incites violence must be held accountable.

Mike Pompeo in his statement with the press said: “The United States government supports a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful election that reflects the will of the Nigerian people.”

“It is critical that the Independent National Electoral Commission operates free from outside pressure and intimidation and in a totally objective manner.

“Nigerian security services must provide a safe and secure environment for the Nigerian people to exercise their rights.

“Those who interfere in the electoral process or incite violence must be held to account.

“The upcoming elections are an opportunity for Nigeria to solidify its place as a democratic leader in Africa”.
