Military Defeats Boko Haram Sect in Damaturu [Graphic Images]

Men of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday repelled Boko Haram attack in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.

Reports have it that members of the Boko Haram sect launched attack around 5:30pm in Maisandari and Madari wards in Yobe State. But it was however repeled by the Nigerian Air Force fighter jet that supported the ground troops hours later.

The Nigerian Military took to social media to reveal this development on Tuesday evening.
The Nigerian Gallant Troops of 233 Battalion at about 6pm successfully repelled elements of Boko Haram who attempted to infiltrate Damaturu the Yobe State Capital through Kukareta Road.”

Earlier eforts to confirm the incident from security agencies proved futile, but residents in Ngaurawa village, along Maiduguri road confirmed seeing the insurgents retreated.

“We saw them passing around 4:40pm in fourteen hilux vans but only nine returned around 6:50pm,” one of the locals revealed.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that the capital of Yobe State, Damaturu was under attack by Boko Haram insurgents.

Resident of Maisandari area, an outskirt of Damaturu, confirmed the incident and said the attackers came through the eastern part of the town and started shooting sporadically.

One of them, Usaini Maisandari, said they were outside his home when they saw the assailants coming into the area in hilux vans that are laden with Anti aircraft.

“We all scampered for safety. Can you hear the gunshot and explosions? I want you to pray for us please,” he told journalist.

Journalists in the area reported seeing heavily armed soldiers in four armoured carrier and many hilux vans advancing toward the insurgents’ direction.Army repel boko haram
