Mixed Reactions Trail Seun Onigbinde’s Resignation
Reactions have continued to trail the resignation of Co-founder of BudgIT, Seun Onigbinde, who recently announced his appointment as Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.
BudgIT is a Nigerian civic-tech organization that has been monitoring projects completed and abandoned by government and lawmakers who earmarked money for such projects.
Onigbinde gave in to pressures from the social media users who had condemned his appointment having said he wanted to try new experience.
In a public letter released over his resignation, Onigbinde noted that : “It is clear that recent media reports about my appointment have created a complex narrative, which I believe would engender an atmosphere of mistrust, as I planned to proceed.
“Upon further reflections on the furore that has been generated by my new role as the Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, I humbly resign the appointment.”
While noting that his sincere interest is to see a Nigeria that grows and optimise resources for the benefits of all Nigerians which was what compelled him to accept the offer to provide technical skills.
He wished the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration well adding that he will always be of help to the federal government in his capacity as the Director of BudgIT.
“I would also work to ensure that BudgIT continues to build civic awareness on the right of every Nigerian to know how public resources are managed.”
This development has led to mixed reactions from Twitter users. Read them below.

Seun Onigbinde treads the path of honour; resigns his appointment.
People should learn to put their money where their mouth is. You cannot disapprove of a Govt & want to be a part of it at the same time. Wailers should learn the art of constructive criticism cos u never know!?♂️ pic.twitter.com/hL3y61TJQ7

I don’t know the rationale behind including @DrJoeAbah in Seun’s issue. He gave his candid view and you all are behaving as if he cares about your view.

I feel Seun Onigbinde shouldn’t have resign. He is to work as a consultant not as member of staff.

I don’t think Seun Onigbinde @seunonigbinde should have resigned, though he’s free to.
People holding public office are always under public scrutiny- some comments plainly set out to undermine.
If he had carefully thought this through, his decisions are his.

So because Seun Onigbinde resigns from further serving as your Technical Adviser, he suddenly lacks integrity?

Seun Onigbinde tops the trend list again for his resignation.
Morals: Anything you do, people will talk. Don’t blame them. It is yours to be focused so that you won’t chicken out because of media reports or bants.
