Mount Offers Support For Tammy Abraham As Striker Struggles In Front Of Goal

Mason Mount has offered support for teammate and compatriot, Tammy Abraham, with the striker coming under fire in recent weeks.

Chelsea were keen on bringing in a competition for Abraham during the January transfer window but failed in their bids.

Mount insists he isn’t surprised by Abraham’s success in the Premier League and backs the youngster to keep on leading the line under the charge of Frank Lampard.

Lampard didn’t hide his intentions of wanting an extra firepower during the recently closed window, with Chelsea preparing bids for Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Napoli star, Dries Mertens.

Tammy Abraham can be said to be having a stellar season having found the net 15times in his first full season of Premier League football, having had several loan spells. So important has the player become to Lampard that he played through pains in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Leicester, having sustained am ankle injury during the thrilling encounter.

Mount who just like Abraham was a Chelsea academy graduate believes that the England International can keep adding to his tally.

“I am not very impressed at all. I know exactly what he is like,” he told reporters when asked about the striker’s returns in front of goal. “I have grown up knowing what kind of player he is and what he can achieve.

“This is not a big surprise to me what he is doing this season. I know what he can do so for him to be scoring loads of goals and playing well that’s the best thing to see for us players, coaching staff and fans to see him doing so well. It is brilliant to see.

When asked about Tammy Abraham’s recent struggles in front of goal, the 22two-year-old replied:

“I would personally say it is more mental than physical. There is obviously a big focus on performing in every game. The fans want you to do well so there is a lot of pressure.

“He has dealt with that brilliantly. As I said before, it is not a big surprise to me.”
