N220m Fraud: Assembly Clerk Lands in Detention, Wife Bit Officers on Duty

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Torese Agena, Clerk of the Benue State House of Assembly over an alleged case of fraud, stealing and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of over N220,000,000 (Two Hundred and Twenty Million Naira).

The Clerk was detained after the anty graft agency secured a valid remand warrant obtained from the Federal High Court, Makurdi. According to the commission, he would be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, his wife,  Agena Terngu and her two daughters, Terfa- Mamadu Ngweavese and Agena Suur created a scene on Friday, January 17, 2020, at the Makurdi Zonal office of the Commission, attacking some officers within the Commission’s premises.

According to the commission, they came on a visit and ended up assaulting two mobile police officers on duty and giving the third, a human bite on his left arm. They later tried to run down another with their car while trying to escape.

They were however handed over to the police for onward prosecution while the Clerk of the State House of Assembly will be arraigned as soon as investigation is concluded.
