N500bn Was Released to Assist Vulnerable Nigerians, Only Few Benefited – Aisha Buhari Tackles SIP Again

  • N500 billion was released by the Federal Government to assist vulnerable Nigerians.

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has called on the National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP) to extend support to poor people in Katsina State including those devastated by banditry.

Mrs Buhari made the call in Batsari, Katsina State on Saturday when she and entourage came to distribute relief materials to victims of banditry.

Mrs Buhari stated that although N500 billion was released by the Federal Government to assist vulnerable Nigerians, only a few had benefited after she asked the IDPs if any of them had received the N10,000 assistance,  with the response being negative.

While noting that her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari got over one million votes in the state during the last election, Mrs Buhari urged N-SIP to come to their aid assist them.

She also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to the aid of the Internally Displaced Persons in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman, Batsari Local Government, Alhaji Mannir Muazu, disclosed that over 18,000 people were displaced by banditry in the area.

According to him, 13,000 of the victims were children while the remaining 4,000 were women from 28 communities across the area.

Speaking with newsmen, some of the IDPs commended Mrs Buhari for the gesture.

Malama Fatima Kasai, a female victim, revealed that the bandits dislodged them from their community, and took away their food and valuables, killing majority of their husbands and raped some of the women in the process.

Kasai, therefore, urged the government to take measures to end the attacks and prevent a reoccurrence.

The relief materials distributed by Mrs Buhari included rice, milk, clothes, among others.
