The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS in a new statement released today have called on the Nigerian electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to further extend the deadline for the collection of the Permanent Voters Card PVC on behalf of Nigerian students in order to participate in the forthcoming presidential election.

NANS in a statement released by the body Public Relations Officer PRO, Azeez Adeyemi today in Abeokuta stated that the call for an additional extension is to help Nigerian students, who are just returning to their schools have more time to pick up their PVC at various points where they registered in their schools.

Azeez Adeyemi in his statement said that “NANS sees this call as imperative due to the just-suspended strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).”

“Most Nigerian university students will be returning to the school environs where they registered for their PVCs to pick them up.

“We recall that INEC had revealed in its statistics of the eligible voters, ahead of the 2019 general elections, that over 22 million voters are Nigerian students.

Nigerian Students in various public universities have been away from their campuses following three months strike action the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU embarked on which was suspended on Thursday.

Also, INEC yesterday extended the deadline for the collection of PVC from 8th of Feb. to 11th of Feb.

It is uncertain if the Electoral body will extend the deadline for a second time, with the Presidential election barely a week away.
