NFF Appoint Joseph Yobo As Super Eagles Assistant Manager
Ex-Super Eagles star, Joseph Yobo has been appointed Assistant manager of the Nigerian National team following the sack of Imama Amapakabo.
After Imama Amapakabo was shown the exit door, the Super Eagles sought a familiar face for inspiration.
The enigmatic former defender, Yobo captained the three time African champions at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and will now be assisting head coach, Gernot Rohr at the helm of affairs.
“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Super Eagles’ defender and captain Joseph Yobo as assistant coach of the team. He replaces Imama Amapakabo in the three -ime African champions’ technical crew,” a statement by the NFF read.
The former Nigeria International grew through the ranks and into the senior National team after previously representing the U20 side at the 1999 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Having made his first senior appearance Afcon qualifying clash with Zambia, Yobo forged ahead to become Nigeria’s most capped player along with Vincent Enyeama, making a total of 101 appearances for the West African nation.

Prior to his retirement from International football, the former Nigerian skipper featured in three FIFA World Cups and as many as six AFCON finals.
He also has a few medals under his belt, helping his Turkish side to one Super Lig title and two Turkish cups. He was also voted to feature in Africa’s Best XI for the 2007/08 campaign.
Prior to that, he became only the second player at Merseyside club, Everton to play all 38 Premier League games of a season without missing even a minute. This he achieved under the management of David Moyes.
Yobo is poised to make his first appearance as Super Eagles assistant manager when Nigeria takes on Cameroon on March 23.
