Niger Delta Militants, Again, Issue Quit Notice To Northerners
An alliance of Niger Delta militants has taken a firm stand on its quit notice to northerners living in the oil-rich region, despite the fact that acting President Yemi Osinbanjo warned against threats and hate speeches from any region of the country.
In a statement on Thursday, June 16th 2017, the militant groups also complained that none of the northern groups leaders that gave the quit notice to the South-East people living in the North had been apprehended.
The signatories of the statement released in Port Harcourt, who came together under the auspices of the Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators, are Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters), John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs), Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors), Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers), and Asukwo Henshaw (Bakassi Freedom Fighters).
The others were Duke Emmanson (Niger Delta Fighters Network), Ibinabo Horsfall (Niger Delta Movement for Justice), Ibinabo Tariah (Niger Delta Development Network) and Inibeghe Adams (Niger Delta Freedom Mandate).
The statement released by the coalition goes thus: “All northerners living in the Niger Delta have been given three-month notice to quit the Niger Delta before October 1, 2017. We still stand by our previous decisions and we demand the immediate return of the oil blocs owned by northerners to Niger Delta people.
All oil and gas companies operating in oil bloc(s)/well(s) illegally owned by northerners should also vacate such oil blocs/wells/platforms before October 1, 2017. “We demand an immediate relocation of the NNPC headquarters to the Niger Delta and the replacement of the Group Managing Director of the NNPC with an indigene of the Niger Delta region”.
