– Nigerian Foreign Affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama has been directed to undertake missions to Guinea Bissau and the Benin Republic on behalf of Pres. Muhammadu Buhari

According to the latest statement released by Garba Shehu, Special Adviser to Pres. Muhammadu Buhari today, he made it known that the President, who doubles as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS Authority of Head of States, has directed the country’s minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama to undertake special missions as a special envoy to Guinea Bissau and the Republic of Benin on his behalf.

Geoffrey Onyeama will travel to Guinea Bissau in the company of ECOWAS President, Jean-Claude Bou, where he would approved support to the country’s election process on behalf of president Buhari.

He would also travel to Benin republic where he would meet with Pres. Practice Talon and deliver a message from Pres. Buhari on the brewing political crisis in the country ahead of the legislative election.

In his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State, PMB, this morning, directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama to undertake an urgent mission as his Special Envoy to Guinea Bissau, in the company of ECOWAS President, Jean-Claude Brou 
President Buhari had in response to an urgent request for assistance by the Government of Guinea Bissau graciously approved support to the country’s election process including three hundred and fifty (350) units of electoral kits, ten(10) motorcycles, five(5) Hilux vans, two(2) light trucks and Five hundred thousand US Dollars ($500,000).
This vital assistance ensured that legislative elections held in Guinea Bissau, which should help in stabilizing the country.
In a separate development, Nigeria’s Foreign Minister will also undertake a mission to Cotonou, Benin, to deliver a personal message to President Patrice Talon from President Buhari.
The visit is in the context of the brewing political crisis ahead of April 28, 2019, legislative elections in the country.
