1. Adekunle Gold Confirms Marriage With Simi

Singer, Adekunle Gold has confirmed marriage to Simi.

The singer confirmed this in a note he shared with his fans in an email announcing their union.

According to the content of the note, they got engaged in 2018 and finally tied the knot in January 2019.

He also revealed that Simi has been with him for 5 years before she said, “YES” to his marriage proposal last year.

In his words, “Earlier in 2018, I asked my girl of five years to be my wife. Knowing all of my imperfections and shortcomings, she said yes!”

2. Comedian Ali Baba Makes a Political Joke

Ace Nigerian comedian, Ali Baba has made a joke that made sense on the reasons political parties are not campaigning intensively like previous years.

3. Expert Backs Atiku on Privatisation of NNPC, However Doubts His Integrity

Momoh Aliyu, a financial expert and Managing Director of Cyber1 Systems Network International, has backed PDP Atiku’s decision to privatize the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Aliyu made his position known while reacting to statement credited to Atiku that he would privatize the NNPC if elected.

The expert said that the privatization of NNPC was long overdue but that he doubted the integrity of Atiku in spearheading the process.

4. FG Snubs Suit against Onnoghen’s Trial

The FG on Thursday shunned two separate suits seeking to abort the arraignment of the CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal over his alleged failure to declare his assets.

The suits were lodged by the incorporated ‎Trustees of the Centre for Justice and Peace Initiative, and the Incorporated ‎Trustees of the International Association of Students Economists and Management, respectively.

On the strength of an ex-parte motion that was filed by the groups, the high court, ordered FG to suspend every move to dock the CJN pending the determination of the suits.

However, the FG snubbed the order by ordering the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, to freeze the five bank accounts that were linked to the CJN in a Commando Style.

The memo subbing the court order emanated from office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

5. Nwankwo Kanu Reveals Country that’ll Win AFCON in Egypt

Arsenal and Super Eagles legend, Kanu Nwankwo has given reasons Nigeria will win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Egypt.

One of Kanu’s reasons was that all of Gernot Rohr’s squad played week in and out in their various clubs.

He said that development was a “bright future” for the Super Eagles.

“As for the Super Eagles I hope they win the Nations Cup, that’s what I tell people. The players are making me happy – Mikel Obi, Alex Iwobi and others are playing well, that’s why I’m not panicking. 7. CBN Announces New Policy to Capture the Unbanked

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday revealed a National Financial Inclusion Strategy designed to ensure that at least 80%t of Nigerians have access to banking and other financial services.

The CBN Deputy Governor on Financial System Stability, Mrs. Aisha Ahmad, made a presentation at the National Financial Literacy Stakeholders’ Conference in Abuja on Thursday.

She also said that the apex bank released new policy framework on consumer protection, financial literacy and financial education.

8. INEC Publishes Final List of Candidates for 2019 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates to participate in the 2019 General Elections.

The list contains the names of candidates for the presidential, senatorial, House of Reps and state Assemblies.

The presidential candidates’ list contains 144 names comprising parties’ presidential candidates and their running mates.

The Social Democratic Party did not present presidential candidate or running mate for the election, as two persons –- a former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana; and a former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke — are laying claims to the ticket.

Gana has been recognised by the courts, but rejected by the party.

There are 28 women on the published list as either the candidate or the running mate.

The youngest candidate is the 30-year-old Johnson Omede, being a vice-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party.

A total of 72 Presidential candidates and another 72 Vice-Presidential candidates are expected to run for the president election.

9. Atiku Says, Buhari’s Town Hall Meeting is a Comedy Show

The Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar has described President Buhari’s town hall meeting on Wednesday night’s as “a comedy show.”

Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shuaibu, said the town hall meeting had exposed Buhari as “a person unfit for office” and unprepared to lead a 21st century nation.

He said, “The town hall meeting neither added value nor content to public discuss.

“Clearly, it exposed the fact that the incumbent is neither prepared to rule for another four years, nor does he have a reason to seek a second term.

“The President’s responses to questions border more on classic dementia than reason. It was practically a display of wretched illiteracy.”

10. I Sell Women’s Underwear To Ritualists for N80,000, – Teenager

The Police in Anambra, on Thursday arrested a teenager for allegedly stealing and selling a woman’s underwear to ritualists.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, a Superintendent of Police, said in Awka that the suspect, 19, was apprehended on January 11 in Onitsha.

“The suspect allegedly stole a female panties washed and spread on a rope at 21, Umuna Street, Odoakpu, Onitsha in Anambra State,” Mohammed said.

The Police spokesperson implored the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) in their vicinity to the nearest Police station for prompt action.

According to him, the advice is important to avert this new rituals trend in the country.
