1. Maiduguri/Monguno Road Not Closed, Says Army

The Army has denied reports that it has closed the Maiduguri-Monguno highway to vehicular and pedestrian movement following battle to retake the Baga town by Troops.

Theatre Command (Operation LAFIYA DOLE) Deputy Director, Public Relations, Col.  Onyema Nwachukwu however dismissed the reports as untrue in his statement issued on Monday.

Col. Usman announced that troops have dominated the road with patrols to keep the highway safe for road users.

2. 2019 will Favour Nigerians – Okorocha

Imo State Governor and Chairman of Progressives Governor’s Forum, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has urged Nigerians to be positive about the new year, saying “it will favour the country and her people more than 2018.”

Okorocha made this appeal in a New Year message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Samuel Onwuemeodo.

According to him, “No nation grows with the citizenry being negative about the progress of such a nation”.

3. Peter Obi is not a Saint – Obasanjo

Ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo, has on weekend said that the vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, Mr. Peter Obi is never a saint.

Obi, who is always referred to as a saintly, was rebuffed by Obasanjo who noted that mortals cannot be saint except if the person is dead and lives in heaven.

This was the declaration from the former President during the 2018 Ukpor Day.

However, Obasanjo said that among Nigerian politicians, Obi should be held out as an example. In his words: “Obi is a bundle of intergrity.”

4. Shiites’ Group Storm Catholic Church, worship with Christians

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN on Tuesday attended the 2019 New Year Church Service in Zaria, Kaduna State, to strengthen inter religious harmony and enhance national cohesion.

The group attended the service at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State.

5. NLC Holding President Buhari to Ransom over Minimum Wage – NGF

Organized labour and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF yesterday continued their altercation over the proposed N30, 000 new minimum wages, with the governors accusing the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC of trying to hold President Buhari to ransom on the matter.

In a swift response, NLC said that the governors’ hide and seek game on the new wage would certainly come to an end on January 8, 2019 when its members across the nation would force the states to pay the new national wage.

6. Saraki Reacts After Lai Mohammed’s Threat to Expose Him

Yusuph Olaniyonu, Special Adviser on Media to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has advised Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, to stop using the tragic loss of lives in the Offa robbery as a political tool.

He also urged him to prove his claim that subsequent broadcasts of Saraki’s syndicated Christmas morning interview were manipulated.

In a statement on Friday, Olaniyonu warned Lai Mohammed to respect the memories of the victims of the Offa robbery.

7. Buhari’s New Year Speech Shows He Has Conceded Defeat -PDP

The PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, PPCO has described President Buhari’s 2019 New Year speech as pathetically empty and shows that he has finally given up, following his irredeemable and innumerable rejections by Nigerians.

8. Job Losses, Abject Poverty, are your Only Achievements – Atiku

Ahead of the 2019 elections, Presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has ridiculed the President Buharis government , saying under its watch, the nation has witnessed massive job losses while 90 million Nigerians are living in extreme poverty.

Atiku also faulted the President for claiming to have delivered on his campaign promises recently at a zonal rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

9. NCWS Urge Women to Vote Women Friendly Candidates

The National Council of Women Societies, NCWS, has urged women to vote candidates with policies that would improve the living standard of women and the youth in the February elections.

President of the council, Mrs. Gloria Shoda, said this in her New Year message to Nigerian women on Tuesday in Abuja. According to her,“as we enter into the election year. I advise all Nigeria women to be actively involved in election processes”.

10. Why I Defected To PDP – Ortom

Benue state’s governor Samuel Ortom has said that he chose to pursue his governorship ambition on the platform of the PDP because it was a more credible alternative to achieve his policies.

Ortom stated this on Monday in Makurdi, during the flag-off of his governorship campaign.

The Governor, who won his election on the platform of the APC where he defected to, after losing the PDP governorship ticket in 2014, returned to the PDP some months ago.

“We had to abandon that platform in search of one that offers more accommodation and support for our policies, especially the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017,” he said.
