Police Declare 13 Wanted Over Gen. Alkali’s Murder

The Plateau State Police command has declared 13 additional suspects wanted over the killing of the former chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, late Major General Idris Alkali.

General Alkali had gone missing on September 3rd 2018 while traveling from Abuja to Bauchi via Jos.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna, he said stated that after “an elaborate, discreet and painstaking investigation into the culpable homicide case of late Major General IM Alkali (retired) by the Plateau State Police Command Jos, it has further revealed that the following suspects, now at large, had actively participated in the illegal activities that led to the death of the late General.”


Court Remands Cleric Over Homosexuality

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 44-year-old cleric, Taiwo Opaleke, charged with defiling a male teenager, should be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who remanded the cleric, said that the court could not take his plea as it needed advice of the state’s director of public prosecutions.

According to the Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 14 at his residence.

The prosecutor said that the accused sexually assaulted the teenager by penetrating into his anus, in contravention of Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.


Army Launches Python Dance In Asaba

The Nigerian Army has commissioned its 63 Brigade headquarters in Asaba, capital of Delta State and launched “Operation Egwu-Eke” (Python Dance).

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Thursday at the inauguration of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, said the Operation Egwu Eke (Python Dance) will “swallow” all forms of crime and antisocial vices in Delta State, before, during and after 2019 general elections.

In receiving the Army, the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa appreciated the Army for the bringing the Brigade to Asaba.


FG Releases N100bn For 28 Road Projects

The federal government has released the sum of N100 billion raised from the Sukuk bond in December 2018 for 28 road projects spread across the six geopolitical zones.

Federal government had in December issued a seven year N100 billion sovereign sukuk  with an interest rate of 15.7 per cent as part of its domestic borrowing for the 2018 budget to finance roads projects.

While presenting the cheque to the ministry of Power, Works and Housing, minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed said proceeds will be used to further support government capital spending for 2018 including the construction and rehabilitation of 28 key economic roads across the six geo-political zones with each zones having equal allocation of N16.67bn.


Gen. Abubakar Suggests Maritime As Alternative Revenue Source

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has advised the nation to look forward to the maritime sector as an alternative source of income.

He said “It is time to develop other alternative sources of revenue for the nation and the maritime sector is well positioned to do so.”

“What NIMASA is doing in the industry and the Awards are quite in line to motivate stakeholders and staff to take advantage of the policies in place to invest and grow the economy,” General Abubakar said.”


Buglars Loot Remi Tinubu’s Office

The National Assembly office of the senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Oluremi Tinubu, in Abuja was broken into and some critical items taken away.

A statement made available to journalists by the senator’s legislative aide, Nifemi Aje, said the incident was said to have been discovered as the staff resumed work.

A report of the incident has already been lodged at the Police Post at the National Assembly and investigation has commenced into the matter.


President Buhari Expresses Optimism At The Polls

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday expressed optimism that he would win the forthcoming presidential election, saying “victory is with us”.

The president spoke at the inaugural meeting of the 2019 APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He appealed to the members of the council to be dedicated and committed to the task ahead.

He said I would like to appeal to you to dedicate and commit yourself once again to the task at hand. There is no doubt that victory is with us: it is ours, but that shouldn’t mean we should rest even for a moment.

The president urged the council members to ensure a smooth campaign and a resounding victory for the party and its candidates.

President, APC Using State Resources For Campaign – Atiku

President Muhammadu Buhari and his party the All Progressives Congress (APC) are using state apparatus and resources for the elections in violation of the Constitution and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has alleged.

Atiku, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Ibe, said the National Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu had in December, last year, warned political office holders against using state resources or apparatus for their campaigns, or deploying same against their opponents.

Meanwhile, speaking at a campaign rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has said that Atiku, the presidential candidate of the PDP would crush the Boko Haram insurgents in the North East and guarantee employment opportunities for Nigerians if voted into power.


Buhari Is The Best Candidate – Kano First Lady

The wife of Kano State governor, Dr Hafsat Umar Ganduje, yesterday, said Nigerians have no better presidential candidate than incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking during a campaign in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government, Dr Hafsat said opposition political parties were nothing but ghosts.

Dr Hafsat said the APC-led government in Kano State had empowered women and youth at all levels.

She, therefore, urged Nigerians to vote for APC candidates come February 16 presidential election.


Tinubu, Balarabe Musa, Others Bag Awards

The All Progressive Congress’ national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a former governor of old Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa, have bagged the Arewa Festival Foundation award.

At the maiden edition of the Arewa festival dinner and award night in Lagos, Tinubu was honoured with the Sardauna Award for Leadership; and Balarabe Musa, the Aminu Kano Award for Selfless Service.

Also awarded were the Director-General of Nigerian Automotive Design and Development Council Jailani Aliyu, Arewa Entrepreneur of the Year; the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala; among others.
