Save Us From Land-Grabbers, Residents Cry

The Residents of Ilubinrin, Badore in Eti Osa Local Council in Lagos State made up mainly of fishermen and women took to the street in protest in their community calling on the state government to save them from suspected land grabbers who are encroaching on their properties.

The protest took them from Badore junction to Ilubinrin bearing placards with various inscriptions.

Baale and Secretary of the Community, Chief John Gandonu and Pastor Francis Ayodele who led the protesters said they have sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal to the state government over alleged encroachment of their properties.

They appealed to the government to save them from invaders, as they would not want to take laws into their hands.


‘No Light, No Pay’, Festac Residents Protest

The narrative regarding saturdays — usually known as a day for ceremonies — changed when the neighborhood was filled with the protests and bitter lamentations of the residents of Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos State.

Chants and placards with inscriptions, such as, “No light, no pay”, “No prepaid meters, no payment”, “God hate, darkness”, “Stop estimated billing”, among others, could be heard and seen by carried by these residents.

iDONSABI can confirm that the raging protest was not unconnected with the refusal of the Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKEDC) to give them prepaid meters.

According to sources, the refusal was a ploy to continue issusing estimated bills to the residents of Festac town.

The protesters, under the aegis of members of Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA), chanted solidarity songs for hours. The protesters were mostly retirees and they were escorted by the police.

Reacting, the EKEDC Assistant General Manager, Mr. Sam Edoho, said the protest shocked him, “as we have never taken their grievances for granted.”

Edoho said “EKEDC has done a lot about metering because we don’t take customers’ complaints for granted. They don’t know that it is when we have adequate metering that we can record huge returns. In this district, Festac has always been given priority in terms of meter distribution”.


Three Teeenagers Jailed In Lagos

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has remanded three teenagers who allegedly used cutlasses and knives to rob two men of money, phones, wristwatch and an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card.

Magistrate M. I. Dan-Oni ordered that Emmanuel Sylvester, 18, Faruk Sanusi, 19, and Kamorudeen Sodiq, 19, be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons pending the arrival of the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.


Lady Charged With Murder of Lover’s Son

An Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court has remanded Chinenye Ndubuife, 20, following arraignment for the alleged killing of her estranged lover’s two-year-old son.

“The accused is to remain behind bars for the next 26 days pending the outcome of advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP),” Chief Magistrate A.O. Komolafe ordered.

She ordered the accused kept at the Kirikiri Prison and adjourned till January 30.

Prosecutor Kehinde Omisakin said the accused committed the offence last December 12 at 70, Lawani Street, Olodi-Apapa.

She alleged that the accused hit the two-year-old boy’s head against the wall before smashing it with a stone. She allegedly dumped the body in a pit toilet when she realised he was dead.

“The accused claimed her act was that of vengeance because she had lost her womb following abortions from pregnancies due to her amorous affair with the deceased’s father,” Omisakin said.


Two Remanded For Alleged Robbery

Two men, who allegedly robbed a man of his Apple watch worth N240,000 and N60,000 cash, have been remanded in Kirikiri Prison by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrate M. I. Dan-Oni sent them to Kirikiri, pending advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused -Michael Archibong, 22, and Kelechi Uba, 30 – are being tried for conspiracy and robbery.

Prosecutor Victor Eruada said the duo committed the offence on October 26 at Ilaoregun Street, Ijegun, Satellite Town, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused, armed with a gun-like carved wood in form of a gun and other weapons, robbed the complainant, Mr. Samson Mohammed, of his Apple watch valued at N240,000 and N40,000 cash.

“Mohammed was going to deliver the watch to a customer when he was attacked.”


Civil Defence Official Gets Bail In Murder Case

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel, Kehinde Osho, who allegedly shot dead a man, has appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Osho is facing a one-count charge of murder — He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Inspector Oladele Adebayo alleged that the accused committed the offence last November 18 at 9pm, at Pipeline Way, Oke-Odo, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused shot Mr. Taofeek Abdulqadir, 31, with a gun in the head.

Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum, and ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.


Task Force Arrests 23 Miscreants

Operatives of the Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force) at the weekend arrested 23 notorious miscreants during an overnight raid around Shitta in Surulere.

They confiscated bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other outlawed illicit drugs such as ‘Novalyn with Codeine cough syrup’.

The agency also nabbed eight members of the notorious ‘Awawa Boys’ during an enforcement operations near Capitol, Isale-Oja and Agege.

It ordered traders along railway tracks to leave the area, as its operatives are set to clamp down on illegal traders on railway tracks.


Buhari Denies Ordering Arrest of Pinnick

The Presidency has described as `fake news’ a press release in circulation, to the effect that President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the arrest and prosecution of Amaju Pinnick, the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

A report went viral in social media in the last 24 hours indicating that there were palpable fears in the country’s football family following alleged President Buhari’s directive for the prosecution of Amaju Pinnick, over a litany of corruption allegations levelled against him.

“The allegations which also involved funds embezzlement are in billions of naira,’’ the report quoted.

But, a presidential spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, dismissed the report as untrue and false.


PDP Promises No ASUU Strikes

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given assurance that if elected back to power in 2019, it will ensure an uninterrupted education calendar in the sector.

Mrs Jennifer Atiku, wife of the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar  Atiku, gave the assurance in her remarks at the flag-off of the Edo Central Senatorial campaigns by the party on Sunday in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Atiku said that a PDP government would ensure that students who “are presently out of school due to the lingering ASUU strike get back to their classrooms”.

She also said that a PDP government would create an environment for business to thrive with a view to ensuring that the citizens were lifted above poverty.


Southeast Governors Finally Speak On Python Dance III

The governors of the South East zone of Nigeria, has called on the military to caution troops to be more professional in the discharge of their duties.

They warned the military to remain apolitical, stressing that any attempt to yield to the temptation of being used to manipulate  general elections would be resisted.

According to the Governors Forum, the forthcoming elections will go a long way in shaping Nigeria’s future as one indivisible entity.
