Nigeria Striker Ifeanyi George Dies In AutoCrash

Nigeria International striker, Ifeanyi George who plays for NPFL side, Enugu Rangers has been confirmed dead following an auto crash he was involved in on Sunday morning.

The Ranger skipper died at the age of 26 in the unfortunate car accident.

According to Goal, the said auto crash occurred at Abudu on Benin-Agbor expressway after his car bumped into a parked truck on his way to Lagos. This ill-fated incident came only a few days after the NPFL was suspended following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Emerging reports also confirmed that a friend of the skipper and teammate at club level, Emmanuel Ogbu was also involved in the collision which also claimed his life.

Ifeanyi George, 26, perched his tent with Salisu Yusuf at the start of the 2017 campaign. He then went on to score his debut goal for the Enugu-based side against Kano Pillars in their Nigeria Professional Football League scheduled for April 23, 2017.

The Nigeria International was also a part of the Flying Antelopes’ campaign in the Caf Confederation Cup. His only goal of the tournament came in a 1-1 draw with Al Masry at Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.

His debut game for Nigeria came in the African Nations Championship qualifier against Benin Republic. However, he fell short when the final list for the championship was drafted, a tournament Nigeria ended as runners-up.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have moved to lament the passing away of George through a post on their official Twitter handle.

“We are shocked to hear of the sad passing of striker Ifeanyi George and Emmanuel Ogbu players of Enugu Rangers,” read the tweet.

“Both players were involved in a fatal auto crash earlier on Sunday. Our prayers and thoughts are with their families and Rangers’ management. May their souls rest in Peace.”
