Nigerian Prince scams job seekers of $54,000, gets a jail-free sentence

A Nigerian Prince of the Benin Royal family, Osmond Eweka has been handed a jail-free sentence after he pleaded guilty to two counts of scheme to defraud unsuspecting American job seekers.

Prince Eweka and his accomplice, was arrested in 2018 for defrauding job seekers and raking in a whooping sum of $54,000 under a fake name.

According to reports, the 31-year old allegedly targeted job seekers on the job website, indeed.com, who they charged between $300-$700 per individual with a promise to get them employments.

However, after receiving their monies, Eweka and his accomplice sent them to job websites where they were rejected because no one knew about their deals with Eweka.

The 31-year-old who was arraigned before a Manhattan Supreme Court was given a no-jail sentence, known in law practice as a conditional discharge after he paid $50,000 in restitution in December 2018.

His lawyer, Thomas Kenniff said:

Mr. Eweka chose to do what was best for his family and his newborn son. He is pleased with the court’s decision to sentence him without jail time and now looks forward to resuming a law-abiding life.

His co-defendant, Kamel McKay, pleaded guilty to the same charges in exchange for one year in jail.
