Olympiacos Owner And Staff Not Down With COVID-19

The Premier League game between Manchester City and Arsenal has been postponed and Gunners players kept in isolation because of their meeting with Olympiacos owner, Evangelos Marinakis who was reported to have tested positive to the Coronavirus.

Olympiacos have now reported that none of their players or staff is down with the virus.

Olympiacos owner had been present at the Emirates stadium in Arsenal’s clash with the Greek giants. Marinakis had also met several players of the North London club and met with their backroom staff during proceedings on the turf.

Consequently, involved Arsenal players have been placed in isolation for two weeks. The Greek outfit are however insisted that the risk of contracting the virus is very low.

Yet, the quarantining of these Arsenal players had led to the rescheduling and postponement of a number of their games.

Wolves, guided by Nuno Espirito Santo have also asked that their Europa League tie with Olympiacos be postponed as it poses a serious risk to the staff  players and supporters even though they are poised to play it behind closed doors.

UEFA in response, shoved aside the request from Wolves as Olympiacos have now confirmed that their players and staff are all in the clear.

“Olympiacos FC informs that after the required medical exams to which all the members of the football staff (players, coaching, medical and technical staff of the team), as well as all the board members and staff, were submitted, all the tests came out negative for the COVID-19 virus.”

As at the time of compiling this report, no Arsenal player has shown symptoms of contracting the virus and the club has released an official statement to reassure fans that necessary precautions would be taken.

“Following yesterday’s news that Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis has recently contracted Covid-19, we have been taking medical advice and tracing any individuals who had what the guidelines define as close contact with him at the game 13 days ago,” read the statement.
