- Omokri says Bhari has no constitutional power to give such approval.
- Benue govt ready to embrace policy with a condition.
Reno Omokri, a former media aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to a Ruga farm settlement approved by President Muhamadu Buhari in Benue state.
It could be recalled that a Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture with his team in Benue State informed officials of the State Ministry of Agriculture that he had received directives from the Ministry’s headquarters Abuja to establish Ruga which means ‘Fulani settlement’ in parts of the State.
According to the director, the local government areas selected for the Ruga settlements were Otukpo, Tarka and Ukum.
“I REJECT the Ruga farm settlement approved for herdsmen by General Buhari. He has no such powers. I will RESIST this UNCONSTITUTIONAL and NEPOTISTIC act with every LEGAL and MORAL resource at my disposal. Buhari can give them his farm, but not Nigeria,” he wrote.
Also reacting the Benue state government said the plan will be embraced by the people only if it supports implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017.
“We find the approach of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture not only as a gross violation of the Ranching law but also as an insult to the sensibilities of the entire people of Benue State.
“It could be recalled that the people and government of Benue State rejected cattle colonies and still reject the policy in whichever robes it is disguised.”
