Omokri to Buhari: Lead By Example, If You Are Serious, Close The Border Against Health Tourism

Reno Omokri, a former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to close the border to medical tourism.

Omokri and some other critics of the President have been lamenting over the closure of Nigeria’s land borders. He said closing the border is not a smart move.

“Closing the border is not smart. If you‘ve been to our neighbours, you’d realise that even their toothpick comes from Nigeria. By closing the border, we are forcing them to find new suppliers or become self-sufficient.

“If General @MBuhari is serious, he should close the border against health tourism. You can’t access your health needs in London and stop Nigerians from accessing the economic needs over the border. Lead by example!

 

Many people have been lamenting about the move made by the president to encourage local production of goods, especially rice. He has been commended for the move by some while some criticised it.

Despite a plea from Benin President, Patrice Talon on President Buhari to open the border, the border remains closed.

Presently, rice known to be the staple food that is mostly consumed in Nigeria is now about 23,000 per bag. According to some, since the borders have been closed, Nigerian rice is now taking centre stage.

With the availability of the product and competition from local producers on the ground of quality, it is believed that the product price will still reduce and Nigeria will drive towards the aim of the president which is to be self-sufficient.
