Onnoghen’s Resignation Beginning of Recovery for Our Judiciary – Presidential Aide
Lauretta Onochie, a presidential aide has described the resignation of suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen as the beginning of the recovery for Nigeria’s judiciary.
Onochie took to her Twitter handle to say Onnoghen’s resignation is a great battle won for Nigerians.
iDONSABI reports that Adegboyega Awomolo, the lawyer to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, confirmed the development as there have not been words from the presidency.
This could be partly due to the absence of Femi Adesina and Gaba Shehu; both presidential media aides that are not in the country presently.
Onnoghen finally resigned less than two months after he was charged with non-declaration of assets which some government critics said was politically motivated.
Recall that Justice Onnoghen, who is the head of Nigeria’s Supreme Court had been suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari weeks before elections in February, prompting outrage and claims he was trying to manipulate the judiciary.
The opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) protested the announcement by shutting down their presidential campaign for 24-hours calling on president Buhari to rescind his decision.

Onnoghen resigned as the CJN a day after the regulatory body for judges, the National Judicial Council (NJC), recommended he should be compulsorily retired from service.

and the beginning of the recovery of our judiciary, Onochie tweeted on Friday.
