Pique Insists There Is No Friction Between Messi and Griezmann

Gerard Pique has played down rumours that the pair of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann are struggling to get along.

Earlier this month, Griezmann admitted to finding it difficult to relate properly with his Argentine teammate.

He however associated it with the fact that neither of them are “big talkers.”

Rumours have it that Messi who wanted Barcelona to push for Neymar, objected to Barca’s pursuit of the World Cup winner over the Brazilian.

Messi has since thrown those rumours to the garbage, insisting that he has no issues with the former Atletico Madrid striker, a claim now backed by Gerard Pique.

“Here, we magnify everything very much,” said the 32-year-old.

“Leo and Grizi get along, the same as Leo and [Ousmane] Dembele get along, or Leo with Pedro or [David] Villa. It’s good. With Luis [Suarez and Messi], they are almost like brothers.

“Just because he doesn’t get along [with Griezmann] like he does with Luis doesn’t mean they get along badly.”

The pair of Messi and Suarez were on the scoresheet during the weekend, with the Blaugranas thrashing Real Valladolid by a 5-1 scoreline.

Barcelona sit atop the Laliga standings, one point above bitter rivals, Real Madrid. However, there will be no clash between both sides till Decenver 18 following the postponement of the El Clasico.

The decision to postpone the match was informed by the civil unrest and protests ongoing in Catalonia.

Pique is of the opinion that the decision to move the game is a mistake.

“My opinion is that it was not necessary,” the Spanish defender added.

“It magnified a problem that wasn’t there. Espanyol played Villarreal that week and nothing happened. I think that for the league and for the clubs it was not the best.

“I think the league, as a competition, and the clubs have to take the bull by the horns and ensure that the show goes on.”
