Police Confirms Involvement in Extrajudicial Killing in Ogun

Following yesterday’s news revealing that another police shooting led to the killing of a young man in Ogun State,  the Police command in the state has confirmed the shooting and killing of an unidentified young man in the Iyana-Coker area of Ifo.

Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the event to journalists. He also informed newsmen that Ogun State commissioner of police, Bashir Makama has ordered an investigation to reveal the circumstances thated to the shooting and killing of the unidentified man.

According to the spokesperson of the force, Oyeyemi, the officer alleged to be responsible for the shooting is a member of the zonal intervention squad of Zone 2 Police Command and the team had gone to arrest some armed robbery suspects when they were attacked.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to newsmen the policemen started shooting at a bus stop in the area along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, killing the man. The eyewitness also revealed a lot of other pepple suffered varying degrees of injuries while trying to run to safety.

This shooting and killing is coming at the back of codmennation of the Nigeria Police Force for extrajudicial killings across the country. Some weeks ago, policwn shot a man identified as Kolade Johnson, this was followed last week by a the killing of  young woman was shot dead by policemen while returning from a nightclub in Lagos.

The shooting and killing of the man led on Sunday led to chaos as aggrieved citizens blocked the expressway with burnt tyres which led to serious traffic jam on both sides of the road.
