- Edo governorship election comes up in 2020.
Some suspected hoodlums have attacked the residence of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Edo State is becoming the talk of the moment ahead of the 2020 governorship election as the situation within the ruling party took a turn for the worse at the weekend in Benin, the state capital.
It was gathered that a reprisal attack also occurred when the Chief of Staff to Obaseki, Taiwo Akerele alleged that he was attacked by a chieftain of the APC in Protea Hotel during a meeting with some foreign investors.
Speaking on the incident, Edo Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Muhammed denied that such incident took place in the ruling party national neighbourhood.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspected hoodlums gathered around Oshiomhole’s residence, chanting offensive slogans in an apparent move for him to come out of the house.
They were however dispersed by security operatives and the road was closed to traffic some times before it was re-opened. There was security beefed up at Oshiomhole’s house, with about four police patrol vans brought in addition to the one that was always stationed in front of the house.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to Oshiomhole, Simon Ebegbulem blamed a top government official who he insisted was desperate to get a second term.
According to him, the alleged assault was neutralised by rival APC youths who were dispatched to the national chairman’s residence.
