Pres. Buhari meets with two Main Contenders of Senate Presidency as Sen. Danjuma steps down

– President Muhammadu today met with the two main contenders for the Senate Presidency of the 9th Assembly

– This comes as the 8th National Assembly is winding up today with outgoing Senators giving their valedictory speech

According to a latest report, Pres. Muhammadu Buhari today met with two main candidates, who are interested in attaining the chair of the third highest position in the country, Senate President.

The two contenders are Senator Danjuma Goje and Sen. Ahmed Lawan.

According to the report, the President met with the duo alongside Kaduna State Gov., Nasir el-Rufai, who was present at the meeting.

Bashir Ahmad, a personal assistant to Pres. Muhammadu Buhari on New Media also confirmed the report, he wrote, “President Muhammadu Buhari meets with the two main contenders for the Senate Presidency of the 9th Assembly, Sen. Danjuma Goje and Sen. Ahmed Lawan. Gov. Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State was also in the meeting.”

He also comfirmed that Sen. Danjuma Goje has stepped down for Sen. Ahmad Lawan.

Bashir Ahmad said ”After their meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Sen. Danjuma Goje stepped down for Senator Ahmed Lawan, in race for the 9th Senate Presidency.”

The need for a new Senate President becomes necessary as the outgoing Senate President of the 8th National Assembly, Bukola Saraki was unable to win a return ticket to the Senate during the General Election that took place earlier this year.

A report made it known that the 8th National Assembly will be winded off today and the outgoing Senators will be giving their valedictory speech.

Another report confirmed that Pres. Muhammadu Buhari has given a nod to the inauguration of the 9th Assembly to take place on Tuesday 11th of June, which is a day to the Democracy Day now slated for June 12.
