Protest: Shiites Claim Police Kill Three IMN Members

Report reaching iDONSABI indicates that there was confusion along the Bakin Ruwa,  an outskirt of Kaduna State as three members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, were reportedly killed by the police during their Ashura Procession.

Reacting to the allegation, the spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo said the claim was a blatant lie, adding that they were only dispersed by the Force’s men.

In a related event, IMN carried out its Ashura mourning procession in Abuja, in defiance of the police.

Recall that the Police had in a statement by its spokesperson, Frank Mba warned that the IMN being a proscribed group by the virtue of a court order are restricted from any demonstration and anyone arrested would be treated as a terrorist.

The Ashura procession, which is an annual religious ritual carried out by the Shia Islamic sect all over the world on September 10 witnessed participants including men, women, and children.

They held the procession for a few kilometres from Berger Roundabout to Wuse and hurriedly concluded the exercise to avoid a confrontation with security personnel.

According to reports, the procession commenced by 8 am and lasted for about 25 minutes, causing traffic gridlock in the commercial area, but there was no report of any incident.
