Quit notice: No going anywhere, Ndigbo vow

The Igbos residing in the 19 Northern states in Nigeria have vowed that they will not leave the North on the October 1 deadline given by some Northern groups. This was stated yesterday during a courtesy call by President-General of Igbo traditional rulers in the northern states and Abuja, Chief Chikezie Nwogwu, on Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who vehemently stated that the northern youths that gave the ultimatum will be arrested and prosecuted.

This is coming after Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Acting President, again warned yesterday that the Federal Government will deploy its entire apparatus against any sect threatening the regional integrity and unity of the country. In all of this, the Police high command has declared that no one has been apprehended, despite the directive given by Governor El-Rufai to arrest the northern youths behind the October 1 ultimatum.

During the meeting with Chief Nwogwu, the Kaduna State governor, he stated that the Igbos would not leave the North because they have made an immense contribution to the development of the region. He however expressed appreciation to the governor for his support, and reiterated that Nigeria is better off as one indivisible country.

Furthermore, he called on the government to address some of the inherent factors that had led to the unrest in different parts of the country. “We are not in support of division. We are saying that things should be done right,” Chief Nwogwu said.

While the Kaduna State governor, promised to get the authors of the quit notice while addressing the Igbos; “we will get the authors of the quit notice, he said. However, the Governor El-Rufai said the state has no room for hate speeches and will ensure that those who perpetrated such acts are brought to book, while addressing the Northern traditional rulers.
