Ramsey Explains Why He Stole Ronaldo’s Goal

Aaron Ramsey revealed that he apologized to Ronaldo after appearing to have stolen a record-breaking goal from the Juventus star.

The former Arsenal midfielder pounced on a loose ball after Lokomotiv Moscow’s show-stopper appeared to have miscued a freekick from Ronaldo.

The former Real Madrid talisman could have made history had the ball gone in without Ramsey’s interference. The Wales International slowly poked the ball in to place his name on the scoresheet instead.

The midfielder has now been credited for scoring thr opening goal during a continental fixture in the Russian capital on Wednesday.

Ramsey confessed to having apologized to Ronaldo for what could have been a record breaking goal for the Portugal International.

That goal could have seen the Juventus forward become the first man to score against 34 different teams in Europe’s premier club competition.

The 34-year-old still remains stuck on 33 alongside Real Madrid legend, Raul and his age-long rival, Lionel Messi.

Ramsey has now revealed that he apologized to the five-time Balon D’Or winner to having stolen his goal.

“I thought the keeper was a lot closer to me and had a chance of diving back and maybe clearing it.

“My instinct took over to make sure that it went over the line.

“I’ve apologised to Cristiano.”

That wasn’t Ramsey’s first effort though. The Welshman made an early effort but it was cancelled out by Alexei Miranchuk.

Juventus did end up victorious after Doulas Costa made sure a solo run ended up with a goal.

They have now secured themselves a safe passage into the knockout rounds of the competition after moving moving seven points clear off Lokomotiv with two games remaining.

The former Arsenal player added:

“We still have work to do to finish top but we achieved our target of qualifying tonight, so we’re happy that we’ve done that.”
