‘Rashford Could Miss Out On The Euros With Injury’ – Solskjaer

The injury to Marcus Rashford might be more serious than what was previously thought says Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The striker was formerly expected to be out for as much as six weeks but the back issue the Englishman is struggling with may make the youngster miss out on the Euros.

Rashford first suffered a knock against Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup when he came on as a substitute but was only forced back to the bench with an injury after only 15 minutes of play.

United boss thereafter revealed that the 24-year-old would be at absent for six weeks at the least due to a double stress fracture he suffered in his back, an injury that was expected to keep the England International out of action for the most parts of the remainder season. However, it was hoped that he could return in time to form a part of the England squad for the Euros 2020.

And despite maintaining hope that Rashford could be back in time, Solskjaer admits the forward might not be back before the close of the Premier League season and might in fact be unavailable for the Euros.

“I would hope he can play again this season. It’ll just be touch and go towards the end. Hopefully we can get through [the Europa League] and prolong the season,” Solskjaer said.

“It takes time, I’m not a doctor. I was hoping he would recover quicker than what it looks like he’s going to be out for. Another few months definitely.
“If he’s not fit enough he won’t go [to the Euros].”

In addition, the Norwegian boss said:

“He had a scan and it was maybe more severe than what we hoped and expected. He felt fine a few days before that.

“I didn’t know it takes that long to recover. When it heals he will be stronger for it so it’s important we don’t rush it.”
