Rashford Leads Manchester United Onslaught Of Chelsea

Marcus Rashford led Manchester United’s onslaught and chastening of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea after scoring a brace and the duo of Anthony Martial and new boy, Daniel James adding one apiece.

Manchester United didn’t just win, all their new players had fun with Maguire, Wan Bissaka and James brushing, scheming and caressing the ball like they were just in it for the fun yet they were exceptionally brilliant by all standards.

That said, a 4-0 win didn’t  quite tell the full story. Chelsea were dominant in the first half despite falling to an early Rashford penalty. The London Blues gave their Red devils counterparts the run-around even hitting the woodwork twice.

Marcus Rashford took advantage of the shortcomings of the Blues defence scoring on both sides of an Anthony Martial poacher goal. You could imagine Ole Gunnar Solskjaer say to Frank Lampard, “welcome to the bigs, Junior”.

Probably most brilliant of all was the leader of the orchestra at the middle of the park, Paul Pogba Labile who gave the long through pass that sent Rashford through to his third goal and the assist for Daniel James’ goal.

Pogba’s pass dissected the whole Chelsea’s defence before having Rashford sprint through the middle and slipping the ball past Kepa.

You could hear the Stretford end sing a pertinent song to mock Graeme Souness who is a big critic of the French man.

This was a different Pogba. Asides from providing those killer Pogba-esque passes, he was willing to do the dirty work, coming to the rescue of Mc Tominay on most occasions.

The pressure was heating up for Lampard and he brought in Kante and Giroud for Tammy Abraham. The former Derby County manager looked confused and must now be ready for the now-familiar “sacked in the morning” and “Lampard out” chants.

After a disappointing transfer window that saw United lose Romelu Lukaku without a marquee replacement, the Red devils made a huge statement in front of their own fans at Old Trafford.

Sign of new beginning for the club? Only time will tell.
